Upcoming Cars in India in 2018 – Hatchbacks
Maruti Suzuki WagonR
The very popular Maruti Suzuki WagonR is about to be replaced by an all-new model. The next-gen WagonR will be underpinned by a lightweight platform. It will even offer a more modern design and some new features. Powering the next-gen WagonR will be an updated version of the current K10 engine that will comply with the upcoming BS6 emission norms. Hyundai Santr
Tata Tiago JTP
Tata Motors and Coimbatore-based Jayem Automotives have been busy readying the performance version of the Tiago hatchback. Dubbed as the Tiago JTP, this hatchback will be powered by Nexon’s 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine. Hence, in all likelihood, the upcoming hot-hatch version of the Tiago will offer a maximum power of 110 PS along with peak torque of 150 Nm. Other than a more powerful engine, the car will also have a performance-tuned suspension and transmission. The launch is likely to take place towards the end of this year.
Tata Tiago EV
Another Tiago that will be launched in a few months is the electric-powered variant. Visually, the Tiago EV will look a lot like its regular variants. Tata will only add some batches to help you differentiate it from the regular models. Powering the car will be a 3-phase AC motor that generates roughly 40 Bhp.
Ford Figo Facelift
Ford will launch an updated version of the Figo hatchback around Diwali this year. The Figo facelift will carry a set of styling updates and will even offer some new features. The current SYNC1 infotainment unit will be replaced with the SYNC3 touchscreen infotainment system. More importantly, it will get the new 97 PS 1.2-litre Dragon petrol engine that made its debut on the Freestyle. Going by the Freestyle’s prices, the Figo facelift will be cheaper than the current version. Here is our first look review video of the car:
Datsun Go Facelift
The Datsun Go facelift will be launched in September this year. It will come with a set of styling updates for the exterior as well as the interior. On the outside, it will have a new bumper, new headlamps, LED DRLs, and a new front grille. The new grille, which is wider than the one on the current version, makes the Go look bolder. The ORVMs have received integrated indicators. In Indonesia, the car gets an optional body kit. On the inside, it gets a touchscreen infotainment unit. Here is our video of the upcoming hatchback:
Upcoming Cars in India in 2018 – Sedans
Maruti Ciaz
The updated version of the Ciaz will be launched in August this year. The Ciaz facelift will get a comprehensively updated front-end. Also, the 1.4-litre petrol engine will be replaced with a more powerful motor that displaces 1.5-litre. Both the petrol and diesel engines will benefit from SHVS mild hybrid technology. Even the interior will get some minor updates and new features. Here is our video of the car being tested in Delhi – the LED taillights do look nice.
Tata Tigor JTP
Even the Tigor compact sedan will get a JTP variant. Akin to the Tiago JTP, the Tigor JTP will be powered by a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine that outputs 110 PS and 150 Nm. It will also receive a performance-tuned gearbox and suspension. On the outside, it will get minor visual tweaks that will make the JTP variant look sportier than the regular ones. Subtle changes will be made to the interior, too. The performance variant of the Tigor will be launched around the end of this year.
Ford Aspire
The Ford Aspire facelift is probably only a few weeks away from its launch. The Aspire facelift, akin to the upcoming Figo facelift, will come with an updated exterior and interior. The current SYNC1 infotainment unit will make way for the SYNC3 touchscreen infotainment system. Also, the current 1.2-litre TiVCT petrol engine will be replaced with the new 1.2-litre unit from the Dragon series of motors. The Aspire might even end up getting the 1.5-litre Dragon engine for the automatic transmission variant.

Maruti Ertiga
Maruti Suzuki will replace the current Ertiga with an all-new model around Diwali this year. The new-gen Ertiga will be larger than the current version and will be underpinned by the lightweight HEARTECT platform. The 1.4-litre petrol engine that powers the current Ertiga will be replaced with a more powerful engine that displaces 1.5-litres. Both the petrol and diesel engines will benefit from the SHVS micro-hybrid technology. Here is our first look review video of the car:
Mahindra U321
It’s said that Mahindra and Mahindra will launch as many as three all-new cars this year. Out of these, one will be the U321 MPV that has been spied on numerous occasions. The U321 MPV will be launched around Diwali this year and will be powered by 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines that will have a high power output along with decent mileage.
Datsun Go Plus
Even the Go Plus has recently received a facelift and is on its way to India. Its launch will take place in September this year. Much like the Go hatchback, the Go Plus MPV will get a new bumper, revised headlamps, LED DRLs, and a bolder front grille. The ORVMs will receive integrated indicators. The interior will get some minor changes but unlike the Go hatchback, the Go Plus MPV won’t get a touchscreen infotainment unit.
Mahindra XUV700
Mahindra and Mahindra will launch the new-gen Ssangyong Rexton G4 in India towards the end of this year. Rumours abound that the all-new Rexton will be launched in India as the XUV700. It will become the most expensive model in Mahindra’s product portfolio and will take on vehicles, such as the Toyota Fortuner.
Mahindra S201
Another SUV that Mahindra and Mahindra plans to launch this year is the S201. The compact SUV is based on the Ssangyong Tivoli and will compete with the Maruti Vitara Brezza. It will be powered by company’s new-age 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines. These engines will offer a good mix of performance and fuel efficiency. It’s expected to be launched around Diwali this year.
Jeep Compass Trailhawk
The much-awaited Jeep Compass Trailhawk will be launched around October this year. The Compass Trailhawk is likely to mark the debut of the highly awaited 9-speed automatic transmission for the diesel motor. Powering the Trailhawk will the same 2.0-litre Multijet II diesel engine that powers the regular variant. This engine outputs a maximum power of 170 bhp along with a peak torque of 350 Nm. The Trailhawk variant is a more accomplished off-roader than the regular Compass. It will come with Jeep’s Active Drive low-range 4WD, hill descent control, ‘Rock Mode’ for its Selec-Terrain 4WD system, 20 mm of additional ground clearance, and better Approach- and Departure-angles.
