Kawasaki recently unveiled its 2020 line-up of street motorcycles and included in it is a refreshed Ninja 650. The new 650 gets a redesigned front end that’s similar to the one on the recent Ninja 400, ZX-6R and Versys 1000. Sat within the longer nose is a twin-LED headlight. The side fairings have also received a slight makeover and the Ninja 650 now looks noticeably sharper than it did before. Also new in the region is a redesigned windshield that is now flush-fit with the upper cowl. However, it’s set at a more upright angle, so as to offer better wind protection. The design changes continue to the rear too, with a wider and thicker pillion seat.
One of the biggest additions comes in the form of a new 4.3-inch TFT display – a first for a Kawasaki 650. The new console consists of a speedometer, tachometer, gear-position indicator, shift lamp, fuel gauge, odometer, dual trip meters, current and average fuel consumption, remaining range, average speed and more. The system will also offer smartphone connectivity and allow users to connect the motorcycle to the Rideology app, which, in turn, will let you monitor and view vehicle info, riding logs, and phone notifications.
The middleweight Ninja's 17-inch wheels are now shod in Dunlop Sportmax Roadsport 2 tires. The rest of the hardware on the Ninja 650 remains unchanged and the wheels are mounted on a 41-mm telescopic fork at the front and a preload-adjustable shock at the back. The brakes are the same, with a pair of dual-piston calipers and 300mm petal discs at the front and a single-piston caliper with 220mm disc behind. While the company hasn’t given out the power figures and whether it meets any emission standards, we expect the 649cc parallel-twin to be BS6-compliant while making similar figures. In its current form, it makes 68hp at 8,000rpm and 65.7Nm of torque at 6,500rpm.
The updated 2020 Kawasaki Ninja 650 ABS is evaluated at USD 7,799 (Rs 5.53 lakh) which is equivalent to what the 2019 model expenses. In the event that Kawasaki figures out how to do likewise in India, at that point we could see it convey a sticker price like the Rs 5.89 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) that it conveys now. The 2020 Kawasaki Ninja 650 is accessible in a Metallic Spark Black, Pearl Blizzard White, and the KRT shading plan.
Kawasaki Ninja 650 Review
Overview
With the styling inspired from its sibling ZX-10R, the Kawasaki Ninja 650 is an impressive offering from the Japanese manufacturer that offers an exciting ride. The bike is the ultimate addiction just like its track-bent siblings when it comes to high performance and excellent riding quality. With a twin cylinder engine at its heart, the Kawasaki Ninja 650 is a dynamic sports tourer. It competes in the market with the likes of Ninja 650 rivals CBR650F, Hyosung GT650R and Benelli TNT600i in the Indian market.
Coming to the engine specifications, the 2020 Kawasaki Ninja 650 is powered by a 649 cc, Liquid-cooled, 4-stroke Parallel Twin engine that is capable of producing a maximum power of 67.2 Bhp @ 8000 rpm and an utmost torque of 65.7 Nm @ 6500 rpm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox. When it comes to the superior styling, the refurbished front fairing and the fuel tank compliments each other. The basic fit and finish of the bike is something we can all appreciate. With the kerb weight of 193 kgs and the ground clearance of 130mm, the bike can be easily handled over the disgruntled terrain or highways. The new 5-spoke wheels have been shed off with some weight giving the bike a more regular balance.
The suspension duties are handled by a 41mm Telescopic Forks at the front while the rear wheel gets Horizontal Back-link, gas-charged, with preload adjustment. The Kawasaki Ninja 650 gets a Dual semi-floating 300mm petal disc brakes at the front with a dual piston caliper and a Single 220mm petal disc brakes at the rear with a single piston caliper and the addition of ABS for a better handling and stopping power. The part-analogue and part-digital instrument console equipped with all modern features is a boon while the new trellis frame and an underbelly exhaust do the justice to its look. The Kawasaki Ninja 650 has been successful in getting an extensive fan following and the stunning shades Green, Black and Blue add white on its fun and aggressive tagline.
